The Bel Air Middle School defines gifted and talented students as those who perform at or show the potential for high levels of accomplishment compared to peers. Nominations for the GT program can be made by students themselves or by parents and teachers during specified windows (December 2nd-6th and July 22nd-August 16th). The GT program, overseen by Librarian Gloria James-Avalos, includes Advisory time for students to collaborate on challenging projects, differentiated instruction in regular classrooms, and field trips. The nomination and identification process involves collecting both qualitative and quantitative data, with the GT Placement Committee reviewing results to determine eligibility, which is communicated to parents via email or letter. Notifications about parent meetings will be sent through various communication channels.
